Art and knowledge in synergy: how the Art Initiative and Hamrin Foundation shape future decision-makers
Art Initiative - a key to the future
Art, literature and high cultural expression have a unique power to widen our blinders and make us reflect on different perspectives. That is why the Hamrin Foundation has decided to support the Art Initiative at the Stockholm School of Economics with a donation of SEK 10 million: SEK 2.5 million annually for four years.
Art Initiative has actively worked with contemporary art at the Stockholm School of Economics over the past ten years with the aim of making the institution even more knowledge-intensive and to enrich and broaden both education and research.
‘Art and literature become an intellectual glue that makes us reflect and develop new aspects of the human condition. They help us to be creative and solution-oriented. Culture helps us interpret our contemporary times and history while offering places where we can test our thoughts and formulate visions of the future.’ says Professor Lars Strannegård, President of the Stockholm School of Economics
‘For the Hamrin Foundation, the Art Initiative is an opportunity for us to collaborate with one of Europe's most inspiring academic leaders, Lars Strannegård, and a pioneering and action-orientated director, Tinni Ernsjöö Rappe. For us, this is an investment in the education and reflective capacity of future decision-makers.
A trusting and systematic partner
For the Stockholm School of Economics, the collaboration with The Hamrin Foundation is not just about financial support, but about integrating art and literature as part of the school's DNA. Strannegård compares this to building structures for a start-up: ‘We want to create an educational, innovation and knowledge model where aesthetic forms of knowledge are combined with the scientific to increase knowledge intensity.’
The collaboration between the Stockholm School of Economics and the Hamrin Foundation demonstrates the power of combining different forms of knowledge to create a more dynamic and inclusive future.
‘The Hamrin Foundation is not just a funder, they are our co-creators. They are genuinely interested in social change and our relationship with them is trusting and systematic. With thorough analysis and mutual trust, they continue to be pioneers in social change and education,’ says Strannegård.

The new art and industry program aims to create a knowledge-spreading and exploratory activity that enables new meetings and collaborations between art and design students at Swedish universities and industries in Småland. The main aim of the program is to create a learning center that inspires new initiatives and approaches within both academia and industry. Each project will be presented in a public exhibition at Vandalorum.
