Draksådd: When Art Meets Industry in Ljungby the project
What happens when an artist's vision intersects with industry? Emballator Lagan, a packaging company in Ljungby, has hosted artist Sara Ekholm Eriksson over the past year to explore this very question. Collaborating closely with the company and its employees, Sara has developed an art project now displayed at the factory and surrounding areas. The project, titled DRAKSÅDD, delves into the shared interests of art and industry in materials and technology while highlighting the differences in production processes and purposes.
A fascinating collision of worlds
When the meticulous, expressive work of an artist meets the streamlined, efficient logic of a factory, a fascinating collision of worlds occurs. In Ljungby, this collision has produced a site-specific exhibition showcasing how the factory's materials have been reimagined in new, significant ways. The exhibition reflects the factory's location and history, intertwining with the storytelling tradition of Ljungby's fairytale heritage. Visitors embark on a journey from the factory to an ancient burial ground nearby, and into the factory's old abandoned offices. Positioned at the crossroads of past and future, these artworks guide us onto new paths. Additionally, filmmaker and artist Marcus Harrling will present a film documenting Sara's creative process.
Poetic and narrative material explorations
Sara Ekholm Eriksson has recently garnered attention for her poetic and narrative material explorations, investigating the tensions, possibilities, and dead ends in the relationships between nature and culture, matter and life. Since graduating from the Royal Institute of Art in 2022, she has received the prestigious Maria Bonnier-Dahlin scholarship and exhibited at Uppsala Art Museum and Bonnier Konsthall, among others. This exhibition is part of a project at the Royal Institute of Art in collaboration with Art Initiative, supported by The Hamrin Foundation.
